Dr Robert Cisek, Chairman & Managing Director, Volkswagen Group South Africa
Dr. Robert Cisek, born on the 21st May in 1976 in Jakarta, Indonesia, graduated in Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Munich with studies at Osaka University and University of California, Los Angeles. Following his doctorate in Industrial Management from the Technical University of Munich, he began his career in 2005 at McKinsey & Company in Munich, Germany joining the Advanced Industries practice.
Between 2005 and 2012, he served clients from Automotive, Aerospace & Defence, Semiconductors, Telecommunication, and Industrial Automation on various matters including growth strategy, portfolio optimization, R&D efficiency, and manufacturing excellence. In 2012, Dr. Cisek joined the BMW Group in Munich, Germany as head of Industrial Engineering. Until 2015, he was also responsible for the division strategy of the Technical Planning and led the capex reduction initiative as part of the overall profitability program. From 2015 to 2017, he was assigned to the BMW plant in Dingolfing, Germany leading the Press Shop during the launch of the 7 series and the 5 series. Following this, he moved back to headquarter ramping up a company-wide performance program to secure long-term profitability targets. In March 2018 after six years with BMW Group, he joined Volkswagen AG in Wolfsburg, Germany as the Head of Production Strategy of the brand Volkswagen Passenger Cars. Focus of his work included the standardization of the production network as well as the introduction of the Digital Production Platform.
In August 2020, he was appointed as the Managing Director and Chairman of Volkswagen Group South Africa. He is also responsible for the Sub-Saharan Africa Region.
